Simplicity Lens #7 - Clarity

You need to be clear about what you are doing and trying to achieve. Ask yourself: "Why are we doing this?"

Very often we lose sight of what we initially set out to solve and end up adding a lot of features. It's essential to go back to the root of the problem and ask why we are doing this.

We can then refocus on the problem at hand and create a solution that answers it. After the why has been answered we can review the features and keep the ones that are essential.

Don't lose sight of your initial problem and goals. Stay clear and focused.

Write a Manifesto

If you are passionate about your work, this will be easy for you.

Get a piece of paper or open a new document and write about what you do and why you are doing it. Write it as if the entire world will be reading it. Don't play it safe or cautious, write what you feel and try to change minds.

I promise that this exercise will be inspiring. Once you are done, take that piece of paper and put it on your wall. It will serve as your inspiration on a daily basis.

Why Are we Doing This?

I was reading a post from Seth Godin last night that made me stop and think "Why are we doing this?".

The answer was clear, we are doing this to help people and change the way they do and think about branding, simplicity and design. We are not selling anything, generally not promoting stuff (okay some Wednesdays we talk about what we are working on, but it's interesting stuff) and trying to inspire everyone that gives us a bit of their time to read our posts.

The past few months, we've made new friends, new partners and shared our thoughts. If one of our posts changes someone's business or life, then we've achieved our goal.

If you like what you read here, please share it with the people that will benefit the most from it. We're doing it for you and your support is what keeps us going. Thank you!
