It's a New Year, It's a Simple Start

The new year started officially for companies today in the UK (yesterday was a public holiday). With this new start it's your opportunity to start fresh and keep things simple.

You can start by simplifying your workspace and then your processes. For the former, start by clearing everything out and start adding back only the essential (trust me, it will feel good). For the latter, more work needs to be done. Before you start doing everything that you used to do, take a step back and examine. What steps are you taking? Can some of these be removed, outsourced, delegated? If so, do it. Don't second guess, just do it. If it doesn't work you can always go back. If it does, you will save a big amount of time.

These are two things that are guaranteed to simplify your worklife and start moving you towards the right directions. If you run into any problems, let me know.

New Year (Re)solutions

If you start listening to everyone, then you have probably heard various things about 2012. The world is going to come to an end, there will be a double-dip recession, a bigger eurozone crisis and basically everything is going to get worse.

My question to you then is, if everything is going to collapse, then what are you waiting for? You've been waiting all this time for things to get better, to get the right chance, for the economy to settle and every other excuse. Well, all these things won't happen. Find your way and start doing what you love. Don't just think about it, do it. This is your chance.

Forget about a list of resolutions for this year. Choose one thing, focus and do it. Once you've done it and you've reached your goal, then maybe move to another one (if there's any more time left). If you want to share your troubles then send me an email on harry [at] minimoko [dot] com.

Happy New Year everyone and all our wishes for your new beginnings!

Getting Ready For The New Year

Flinch
Image from the cover of The Flinch ebook by Julien Smith

Just a few days left in 2011 and everyone's getting ready for the new year. It's very likely that for christmas you received a device on which you can use the kindle app from Amazon. Whatever device you have (smartphone, tablet, computer or an actual Kindle reader) here is a book you need to download right now: The Flinch by Julien Smith.

The cost to you is 0 (brought to us kindly by the Domino Project) but the effect will be great. Spend the next few days you have off to read this book and get ready to fight in the new year.

Here is one of my favourite extracts from the book:
"Straight-A student. Straight to college. Straight to work. Straight up the corporate ladder. Straight to the suburbs.
Damn, you've been scared straight."

For the New Year, read this book and anything else that will inspire you. Get ready to fight, don't flinch and start! If you need help we will be here. We will continue writing and you can always reach us on hello@minimoko.com.

Happy 2011! Time for Resolutions

2011

With just a few hours left to the new year, we want to wish everyone a Happy New Year!

Tonight is the time for your new year resolutions. Since January is the month that a lot of people change jobs or career paths, maybe now is the time to consider entrepreneurship. 2011 has been called the year of the entrepreneur and especially the tech sector in London will see a great rise.

If you decide to start something up then don't forget about your branding! If you need any help on that, we'll be just a message or call away.

I will close this message with two very important books for people that want to start something up in the new year. If you still have time, pop to your closest book store, they are a great read for the new year weekend.

The Art of the Start by Guy Kawasaki

The E-myth Revisited by Michael E. Gerber
