Get Your Portfolios Ready for 2nd July! @ArtsmartLondon

If you are starting out or working in the creative industries, here is your chance to get a portfolio review during the artsmart. event.

Artsmart. is a two-day event organised by University of the Arts London, and takes place on Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd July. We will be part of the interviewing team for the Consurgo Nightlight Portfolio Reviews (which this time interestingly are during the day) which take place on Saturday 2nd July, 10am-12pm.

The event will take place at Rootstein Hopkins Parade Ground,16 John Islip Street, London, SW1P 4JU (next door to Tate Britain).

Artsmart. is open to anyone in the creative industry (not only UoA students), so go get your tickets now, and see you there!

What did you Learn Last Night?

Last night we had the pleasure to take part in another round of portfolio night reviews with Consurgo at University of the Arts, London.

We worked with graduates and students from different fields, including graphic designers, product designers and illustrators.

What I found is that a lot of people forget the basics that are needed when pursuing something (like a job) and presenting their work. Here are some thoughts:

• Know what you're aiming for. You need to be clear about what you are trying to achieve and present it through your communication and work.
• Become the best at what you want to do. There are no excuses. If you want to work in a certain field, start doing work in that field, even if it's projects you come up with.
• Be confident. If you love what you do, show it. If you don't, don't bother.
• Create a flow. When presenting your work, you need to tell a story. Use emotions to engage your audience and be clear about what you are trying to communicate.
• It's a pitch. Like it or not, when you go for an interview or to show your work, you are pitching for something. Whether it's to get a job, a freelance contract or space in a gallery, you have to prepare a good pitch and practice delivering it.

The points above are not aimed at just creatives presenting their portfolios. Anyone that is looking for a job or starting something needs to have these always in mind.

minimoko @ Consurgo Portfolio Review Night on 17th Feb 2011

Next week we will be reviewing portfolios at the first Consurgo event for 2011!

Portfolio Reviews at Consurgo - Round 2

As announced a few days ago, on 28th October 2010 we joined Consurgo for a second round of portfolio reviews.

It was a great evening filled with design professionals and graduates from the University of the Arts, London. We worked with a team of young and very passionate creative graduates seeking advice and recommendations on their portfolio.

As a group we worked on each graduate's portfolio, discussing the presentation and content and how they can make their work stand out and grab attention. The feedback we received has been very positive and any recommendations will make our reviews even better in the future.

We want to thank Richie Manu from Consurgo for hosting the event and making these events a reality.

Portfolio Reviews by minimoko at Consurgo Nightlight

On 28th October 2010 we will be joining for the second time Consurgo at one of their Nighlight Portfolio Reviews! If you are a young creative, looking to have your portfolio reviewed by professionals then join us there.

The event will be a Portfolio Review session for general graphic design and visuals  communication students and graduates. It will be held at University of the Arts London (272 High Holborn, London, WC1V 7EY) from 18:00 to 20:00.
