Could This be the Future for Brand Consulting?

This article by Co.Design came to verify some of the thinking I've been having the past few years. We, at minimoko, have been supporters of collaboration from the beginning since it allows us to be more involved in a project and create better relationships.

We have also tried (although it hasn't happened yet) to push for a way of working that is different to the traditional consulting model. We know that building a relationship and involving a designer and/or brand builder in the core team is essential to the success of a project. So it makes sense to work for equity instead of working for a fixed fee. The way Fuseproject has achieved this is definitely the way for the future. And it's something that we are pushing to get done in the near future.

The way things are done is changing and sticking to the traditional business models will eventually get us into trouble. We need to welcome change and find ways to provide the best value, while also getting the most out of any project.

Dare to Be Challenged

When we talk about our work and the person at the other end of the table or phone line passively agrees with us, we are happy. We think that we are achieving what we are meant to be achieving.

This passive approval of your work is what can keep you from not exceeding your expectations. It's easy to listen to someone and agree with what they are saying. It doesn't mean you support it, you are just agreeing with it.

Opposing or challenging something is a completely different game. Then you need to have arguments and a heated discussion. This is the time that can help you grow as an individual and as a professional. This is the only way for you to look critically at your work.

When you are working with someone and talking about what you do, demand to be challenged. Push them to a point that they have to challenge you. You will then be able to either prove you are doing the right thing, or make changes. Either way you will be able to grow bigger and better.

Don't take a plain yes for an answer. Always seek to be challenged and excel from it.
