What's Your Market? #BackToBasics

Dsc02474
Branding is not about selling your products or services to a bigger share of an existing market. Branding is all about making you stand out from the others.

The best way to achieve this is not by competing in existing markets. Your brand will be the strongest if you create your own market. You need to position your brand in a way that makes it stand on its own and carve your very own niche.

By doing this you will get a lot of benefits. You will be the first in that market so people will think you are the authority. It will be easy to get publicity in the media since people are interested in what's new (no-one wants to hear about yet another company that does what is already being done). You will have virtually no competition. Finally you will be able to provide better service and quality as you are not trying to do too many things.

Branding can help you stand out from the crowd, by creating your own market. The reality is that you will never be able to please everyone, so focus and get the recognition you deserve.

Re-Post: What Is Your Brand's Story #BackToBasics

Everyone has a story to tell and so does your brand. You can use your brand's story as a way to connect with your audience and show them how you and your product are different.
People buy mainly based on emotions, so sharing your story can communicate with them on an emotional level. Your audience wants to find out about who you are, why you are doing this, how you are doing this and what they will gain. Don't be afraid to become personal, being human is not a flaw, it's reality.
If you made a mistake at the beginning don't just admit it, talk about how you went the extra mile to make it right. If you always have satisfied customers, don't just say "Satisfaction Guaranteed", talk about how you did everything that was possible to deliver to a client on the same day because they needed your product or service.
This story can also motivate and guide your company internally. Use it along with your mission statement, so everyone in your company knows where the brand came from and why it exists. It will help you set out goals and ease the communication of how things are done around here.
Finally, work hard on spreading the story and letting everyone know why you are doing this. You created this brand because it meant something to you so tell it's story.

Re-Post: Stand for Something #BackToBasics

What does you brand and/or company stand for?
This is a critical question. This will make you different from the crowd and bring you the customers that believe in you.
When you answer this, you then need to keep to those beliefs and values. They need to be the same at every interaction with your brand and they need to be well communicated.
What you will gain from this, is that the people that agree with what you stand for will gravitate towards you. It will give you the opportunity to become a leader in your niche. Take it.

Back to Basics

I have been talking about branding on this blog for the past 9 months approximately and I think that it is time that we put some structure around what a brand is and how you can create a strong one.

Starting from next week, I will do a series of posts where we will revisit old posts, expand on some of the ideas and look at additional topics so you can have an almost step-by-step guide on what is needed to build a strong brand.

All posts will be part of the Back to Basics series and you will be able to see them by visiting this section of our blog.
